The most liveaboard boat for the least money, anywhere on earth.

Egypt is where most divers take their first liveaboard, and there is a good reason for that. A week aboard costs less than a long weekend in the Caribbean, the boats are large and comfortable, and the reefs off Ras Mohammed and the Brothers hold up against anything in the Indian Ocean. The classic northern route runs wrecks and reefs — the Thistlegorm is on almost every itinerary. Go south to Daedalus, Elphinstone and St John's for oceanic whitetips, hammerhead schools and coral that has not been touched.

When to go

Highlighted months are when the diving is worth the airfare. Outside them, boats either do not sail or the conditions stop justifying the trip.

Before you book

Northern routes are calm and beginner-friendly. Southern and Brothers–Daedalus–Elphinstone routes want 50+ logged dives and comfort in current.
