Tubbataha for three months a year, and macro the rest of it.
Tubbataha Reef opens only from mid-March to mid-June, and for those weeks it is one of the best reef systems in Asia — sheer walls, thresher and grey reef sharks, turtles everywhere. Outside that window the fleet works Malapascua for threshers, Anilao for the world's best macro, and the Coron wrecks, which are shallow enough for recreational divers and eerie enough to be memorable.
Highlighted months are when the diving is worth the airfare. Outside them, boats either do not sail or the conditions stop justifying the trip.
Tubbataha sells out roughly a year ahead. If that is the goal, book early and be flexible on cabin.
