Giant oceanic mantas that come to look at you, not the other way round.

The Revillagigedo archipelago sits 24 hours of open ocean from Cabo San Lucas, and the crossing is the price of admission. What waits there are oceanic mantas with five-metre wingspans that approach divers deliberately and stay, plus silvertips, silkies, bottlenose dolphins that interact, and humpbacks singing through the water from January to March.

When to go

Highlighted months are when the diving is worth the airfare. Outside them, boats either do not sail or the conditions stop justifying the trip.

Before you book

The 24-hour crossing each way can be rough. If you get seasick, medicate before boarding, not after.
